Learn how to unbox and set up your Toniebox 2 Moon Gray Starter Set. Step-by-step instructions for Wi-Fi, app pairing, and first play.
Quick answer
Unbox your Toniebox 2 Moon Gray, download the Toniebox parent app, connect to Wi-Fi, and pair the box with your account. The whole process takes about 10 minutes.
Before you start: what you need
The Toniebox 2 Moon Gray Starter Set includes the audio player, a charging station, and a starter Creative Tonie. You will also need a smartphone or tablet with the Toniebox parent app installed, a stable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, and a power outlet near the setup area.
The box arrives partially charged, but plugging it into the charging station during setup ensures it won't run out mid-process. The Toniebox 2 is designed for kids ages 1–12+, so the setup is intentionally simple once the app handles the network connection.
Common Wi-Fi pitfalls
The Toniebox 2 only connects to 2.4 GHz networks, not 5 GHz. If your router broadcasts both bands under the same name, the app may struggle to find the box. Temporarily disable the 5 GHz band or move closer to the router during setup.
A weak signal near the play area can cause dropped connections later. If your child's room is far from the router, consider a Wi-Fi extender before completing setup.
Step-by-step setup instructions
- Unbox and charge: Remove the Toniebox 2 Moon Gray from the box. Place it on the included charging station and plug the station into a wall outlet. Wait until the ears glow solid white (about 30 minutes if the battery is low). Do not skip the full charge; a low battery can interrupt the Wi-Fi pairing process.
- Download the parent app: On your smartphone or tablet, install the Toniebox parent app from the App Store or Google Play. Create an account or log in if you already have one. Use the same email you plan to use for future Tonie purchases to keep everything in one account.
- Connect to Wi-Fi: In the app, tap 'Add Toniebox' and follow the prompts. When asked, press and hold the Toniebox 2's left ear until the ears flash blue. The app will scan for nearby networks. Select your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and enter the password. If the ears never flash blue, hold the ear for a full 5 seconds. If the box still won't connect, check that your phone is on the same 2.4 GHz network.
- Pair the box with your account: Once connected to Wi-Fi, the app will ask you to name the Toniebox (e.g., 'Moon Gray Player') and assign it to a child profile. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete pairing. The ears will glow solid white again when done. You can rename the box later, but assigning it to a profile now lets you manage audio time limits from the start.
- Test with a Tonie figure: Place any Tonie figure (the included Creative Tonie works) on top of the box. The box should recognize it and begin playing audio immediately. Tap the ears to skip tracks or adjust volume. If nothing happens, lift the figure and place it again firmly. The box needs a solid connection to the figure's NFC tag.
