The slow pace of this story is exactly what we needed—my son is usually wired at bedtime, but he's out before the song even finishes. It's become the one thing he won't go to sleep without.
My daughter asks for the octopus story almost every night now, and the slow pace actually winds her down instead of hyping her up. The little song at the beginning has become her cue that it's time to lie still.
The single calming song at the start works like a charm for winding my daughter down before the story even begins. The story itself moves slowly enough that she's usually drifting off before Sleepy Octopus finishes her swim with the underwater friends.
